Choosing the right location can completely transform your photos.

Choosing the perfect location for senior photos is one of the biggest parts of creating a session that feels personal, unique, and fun. Luckily, Northeast Wisconsin has so many beautiful options...... from gardens & wildflowers to cliffs, waterfalls, wooded trails, and open nature spaces.

One of my favorite parts of planning senior sessions is helping each senior choose a location that matches their personality and style. Some seniors love natural scenery & sunsets, while others want an urban downtown vibe with architecture, textures, and city energy.

Here are a few of my favorite locations for senior sessions in the Green Bay and Appleton areas!

Green Bay Botanical Garden – Green Bay, WI

The Green Bay Botanical Garden is one of the most versatile & beautiful locations for senior photos in the area. It offers a huge variety of scenery all in one location, which makes it perfect for seniors wanting lots of different looks during their session.

Depending on the season, you’ll find:

  • colorful flowers
  • beautiful greenery
  • winding paths
  • tall grasses
  • charming architectures
  • stone features
  • gorgeous sunset light

I especially love this location for seniors who want a softer, elegant, or more polished feel to their photos. It photographs beautifully from spring through fall and always provides incredible variety.

There is a $7 entry fee for youth (3-17) and I can apply 1 adult to my photographers pass for free. Additional adults (18+) costs $17.

Scheig Center & Gardens – Appleton, WI

The Scheig Center and Gardens in Appleton is another hidden gem for senior photography. This location has a peaceful & natural feel while still offering beautifully landscaped areas and walking paths.

One of my favorite things about this location is how quiet & relaxed it feels. It’s perfect for seniors who may feel a little nervous in front of the camera because there are so many comfortable spots to explore without feeling crowded.

The gardens & greenery create timeless images, and the lighting here is especially beautiful in the evening.

High Cliff State Park – Sherwood, WI

If you love nature and want something adventurous & scenic, High Cliff State Park is an amazing choice for senior photos.

This location offers:

  • stunning lake views
  • wooded trails
  • limestone cliffs
  • open fields
  • beautiful sunsets
  • natural textures and scenery

High Cliff gives sessions a more adventurous & outdoorsy vibe while still offering plenty of variety. It’s especially beautiful in late summer & fall when the colors start to change.

This is one of my favorite locations for seniors wanting something a little more bold, relaxed, and nature focused.

A vehicle admission sticker is required to enter the park, or you can purchase a daily pass at the ranger station when you enter for $8.

Fonferek’s Glen County Park – Green Bay, WI

Fonferek’s Glen is truly one of the most unique photo locations in the Green Bay area. The waterfall, stone walls, wooded paths, and dramatic scenery make it feel completely different from anywhere else nearby.

This location is perfect for seniors who want:

  • something unique
  • earthy natural textures
  • adventurous scenery
  • dramatic backgrounds
  • beautiful nature elements

The waterfall area creates such an incredible backdrop for photos and gives sessions a fun & adventurous feel.

Because this location can involve uneven terrain & walking, it’s best for seniors comfortable exploring a little during their session.....but the results are absolutely worth it!

1000 Islands Environmental Center – Kaukauna, WI

1000 Islands Environmental Center is one of my favorite locations for seniors who love a calm, natural, woodsy look.

This location offers:

  • scenic trails
  • tall grasses
  • boardwalks
  • wooded areas
  • beautiful greenery
  • soft natural light

It works beautifully throughout the year and gives photos a very relaxed, timeless feel. I especially love it during golden hour when the sunlight filters through the trees and grasses.

This location is perfect for seniors wanting relaxed, natural outdoor photos without a heavily 'posed' feel.

Downtown Kaukauna, WI

Downtown Kaukauna offers a surprisingly versatile mix of urban textures and riverfront scenery. The combination of brick buildings, sidewalks, murals, bridges, and nearby water creates a fun variety of looks within a short walking distance.

This location photographs especially well:

  • during golden hour
  • on slightly overcast evenings
  • in early fall with warm tones

Best for:

  • casual outfits
  • trendy senior sessions
  • sporty or laid-back styles
  • seniors wanting a mix of urban and natural scenery

Downtown Appleton, WI

Downtown Appleton is one of the best locations in the area for seniors wanting a modern, stylish, urban look. Between College Avenue, alleyways, storefronts, brick textures, parking ramps, and seasonal décor, there are endless creative options.

This location is especially beautiful:

  • in the evening before sunset
  • during blue hour after sunset

Best for:

  • fashion-inspired senior photos
  • editorial-style portraits
  • multiple outfit changes
  • seniors wanting a city vibe

Things to consider:

  • Parking can occasionally be limited
  • Weekday evenings are often less crowded

Downtown Menasha, WI

Downtown Menasha has a quieter, charming downtown feel with river views, brick buildings, and scenic walkways nearby. It offers a nice balance between urban and relaxed.

Best features:

  • waterfront scenery
  • bridges
  • historic buildings
  • walking paths
  • soft evening light

This location works beautifully for seniors wanting a less busy downtown environment while still getting that trendy city look.

Doty Park – Neenah, WI

Doty Park is beautiful for seniors wanting open greenery, waterfront views, and softer natural scenery. The bridges, lake access, and mature trees provide a timeless and clean look for photos.

Best light:

  • golden hour before sunset
  • early evening in summer

Best for:

  • soft natural portraits
  • dresses and flowy outfits
  • classic senior photos
  • spring and summer sessions

Downtown Green Bay, WI

Downtown Green Bay offers one of the widest varieties of urban backdrops in the area. Between industrial textures, murals, staircases, alleyways, city streets, and riverfront access, there is so much creative potential.

Perfect for:

  • dramatic lighting
  • trendy fashion-inspired sessions
  • sports-inspired sessions
  • edgy or modern senior portraits

Best light:

  • evening golden hour
  • blue hour
  • cloudy days for even city lighting

Things to consider:

  • Some walking between spots
  • Certain areas are busier during events or game days
  • There are parking meters to park on the street or there are parking ramps available, so bring your quarters!

Telulah Park – Appleton, WI

Telulah Park is one of those underrated locations that photographs beautifully in almost every season. The wooded areas, open green spaces, bridges, and walking paths create a very natural and relaxed look.

Best for:

  • seniors wanting greenery and nature
  • casual outfits
  • spring and fall colors
  • soft sunset lighting

This is an especially great option for seniors wanting a peaceful outdoor session without hiking or difficult terrain.

There is even a small area adjacent to the park that offers a little riverfront, urban setting.

Senior’s High School

Photographing seniors at their own high school can add such a meaningful & personal touch to their session. Stadiums, gymnasiums, auditoriums, theaters, locker rooms, art rooms, fields, and hallways all help tell the story of their high school years.

Perfect for:

  • athletes
  • musicians
  • theater students
  • cheerleaders
  • band students
  • club involvement photos

Things to consider:

  • Permission may be required from the school
  • Scheduling around school activities or sports can help avoid crowds

Things to Consider When Choosing Your Senior Session Location

When selecting a location, I always encourage seniors to think about:

  • the overall vibe they want
  • their personal style
  • outfit choices
  • whether they prefer nature or urban scenery
  • walking distance and terrain
  • sunset timing
  • the season of their session
  • crowds and privacy
  • travel distance
  • permit or photography fees

The best senior sessions happen when the location truly reflects the senior’s personality and style.

No matter which location you choose, my goal is always to create a session experience that feels fun, relaxed, and uniquely YOU.

If you’re planning your session and aren’t sure which location is best for you, I’m always happy to help narrow down options and recommend locations based on the style and look you want!
